What Is a Day Treatment Program for Addiction?

A day treatment program, also called a partial hospitalization program (PHP), provides a higher level of structured clinical care than standard outpatient treatment, while allowing you to live at home throughout your recovery. You attend treatment full days during the week, engaging in therapy, mental health care, and clinical programming, then return home each afternoon.

Day treatment is designed for people who need more support than weekly therapy sessions can provide, but who don’t need or want to enter a residential or inpatient program. It’s the level of care that bridges the gap between occasional outpatient appointments and full-time residential treatment, combining clinical intensity with the ability to maintain your daily life.

At Fusion Recovery, our addiction day treatment program is specifically designed for adults managing both substance use and a diagnosed mental health condition, treating both together, from the same clinical team, from day one.

What a Day in Our Program Looks Like in Albany, NY

Our Day Rehabilitation Program runs Monday through Friday. Here’s how a typical day unfolds:

9:00am

Arrive and check in

Start the day with your care team and a consistent daily routine. Predictability matters in early recovery, and the program is designed to provide it.

Morning

Group and individual therapy.

Evidence-based therapy sessions addressing substance use, behavioral patterns, coping skills, and relapse prevention, alongside peers working through the same challenges.

Midday

Mental health treatment

Dedicated clinical time for the depression, anxiety, trauma, bipolar disorder, ADHD, or other mental health condition that co-occurs with your addiction. This is where treatment goes beyond the surface of substance use to address what’s underneath it.

2:00pm

Head home

Back to your family, your home, your community. Every day.

For patients receiving methadone, Suboxone, or other medications as part of a medication-assisted treatment program, MAT continues uninterrupted throughout the program, coordinated alongside your day treatment schedule.

A Dual Diagnosis Program - By Design

Every patient in Fusion Recovery’s Day Rehabilitation Program has both a substance use disorder and a diagnosed co-occurring mental health condition. That’s a clinical requirement, not a coincidence, because treating addiction while leaving an underlying mental health condition unaddressed consistently produces worse outcomes. Our program is built around the premise that both conditions need to be treated at the same time, by the same clinical team, through the same coordinated plan.

Co-occurring conditions treated in our Day Rehabilitation Program include:

  • Depression and addiction
  • Anxiety and addiction
  • PTSD and addiction
  • Bipolar disorder and addiction
  • ADHD and addiction

Each condition is addressed as an active part of your treatment plan – not as a secondary concern, and not by a separate provider. For more information on how Fusion Recovery approaches each of these conditions alongside addiction, visit our co-occurring mental health pages.

Benefits of Day Treatment for Addiction at Fusion Recovery

Clinical Intensity Without Disrupting
Your Life

Day treatment provides a level of structure and clinical contact that occasional outpatient appointments can’t replicate, without requiring you to leave home or step away from your family. You build recovery in the context of your real life, not away from it.

Real-World Application From Day One

Because you return home every afternoon, you practice the coping skills, emotional regulation tools, and behavioral strategies you develop in treatment in real environments, at home, in relationships, in your community. The feedback loop between treatment and daily life accelerates recovery in ways that residential settings can’t always provide.

Integrated Mental Health And Addiction Care

One clinical team. One treatment plan. Both conditions addressed simultaneously, so nothing falls between providers, and the care you receive for your addiction and your mental health are always working together rather than at cross purposes.

MAT-Compatible

If you’re on methadone, Suboxone, or another MAT medication, you don’t have to choose between your medication and day treatment. Fusion Recovery’s program is fully MAT-compatible: your medication continues throughout, coordinated alongside your clinical programming.

Fast Access, Potentially Within 24 Hours

Fusion Recovery accepts rolling admissions with no fixed start dates. From your first call to a possible first day, admission can happen within 24 hours. No waiting lists, no long intake delays.

Insurance Covered - Including Medicaid

Most major insurance plans cover day treatment programs as a medically necessary level of care. Fusion Recovery accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and most private insurance plans. One call to admissions can verify your specific coverage before you commit to anything.

Fusion Recovery’s Day Rehabilitation Program treats a range of co-occurring mental health conditions alongside addiction – including depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. Every patient in the program has both a substance use disorder and a diagnosed mental health condition; integrated treatment of both is the foundation of the program’s design.

Day treatment provides more clinical hours and daily structure than IOP – it’s the more intensive of the two outpatient levels of care. If you’re unsure which fits your situation, our admissions team can walk you through the difference on a single call.

01. What is Suboxone and what is it used for?

Sublocade is an FDA-approved, extended-release injectable formulation of buprenorphine used to treat opioid use disorder. It is administered as a once-monthly subcutaneous injection by a healthcare provider, delivering consistent buprenorphine levels throughout the month without requiring daily patient dosing. At Fusion Recovery, Sublocade is available as part of a comprehensive MAT program integrated with counseling and outpatient care.

Suboxone’s buprenorphine component attaches to opioid receptors in the brain and partially activates them — reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms without producing the euphoric high of full opioid agonists. This stabilizes brain chemistry and removes the physiological pull of active opioid use, giving patients the stability to engage in the behavioral work of recovery.

Buprenorphine, the active component in Suboxone, has a long half-life. In most patients, it can be detected in urine for up to 7–10 days after the last dose. Complete elimination typically occurs within 5–8 days (120–210 hours) in healthy patients, though this varies based on dosage, frequency, metabolism, and individual physiology.

At standard therapeutic doses, Suboxone’s buprenorphine component provides 24 hours or more of opioid receptor occupancy — effectively blocking the effects of other opioids for the duration of the daily dose. This is one of the key protective mechanisms of Suboxone treatment.

In opioid-dependent patients taking Suboxone at therapeutic doses, it does not produce a euphoric high — it stabilizes opioid receptors without the intense effects of full agonists. The naloxone component further deters misuse. In opioid-naive individuals, buprenorphine can produce opioid-like effects at high doses, which is why it is prescribed only under medical supervision as part of a clinical treatment program.

Contact our admissions team by phone or through our website. We’ll walk you through the intake process, conduct a comprehensive clinical evaluation, verify your insurance coverage, and determine whether Suboxone is the most appropriate MAT option for your situation. If Suboxone is indicated, your physician will guide you through induction and the transition to maintenance treatment.

Neither is universally better — clinical appropriateness depends on the individual. Suboxone offers more flexibility (home-based dosing, no clinic requirement) and lower misuse potential. Methadone is a full opioid agonist that may provide stronger stabilization for patients with severe dependency. Your clinical team at Fusion Recovery will help determine which option best fits your history and recovery goals.

The appropriate duration of Suboxone treatment is determined by individual clinical need. Many patients benefit from longer-term maintenance; others work with their clinical team toward a planned taper. There is no clinical evidence supporting a time limit — the goal is sustained recovery, and the timeline is shaped by your progress and goals.

Yes. Most insurance plans, including Medicaid, cover Suboxone as part of substance use disorder treatment. Fusion Recovery accepts a wide range of insurance plans and can verify your specific benefits before your first appointment.

Completing or tapering off Suboxone is a significant milestone in recovery — and Fusion Recovery ensures you don’t face it without support. Before any taper is completed, your clinical team builds a structured aftercare plan with you, including continued outpatient support, community resources, and a clear roadmap for maintaining sobriety after active medication treatment ends.

If you’re ready, we’ll listen and help you explore treatment options without pressure.
